Last night I went to see The Father at Oldham Coliseum. It really is a fantastic play that will leave you laughing and crying as you enter into the mind of an 80 year old dad who is suffering with dementia. The scenes are purposely mixed up so that throughout the performance you’re left second guessing as to whether it’s Andre that’s confused, his daughter or you!
Not to give too much away the play is set in Paris and thanks to the clever staging and scene changes you are left confused as to where Andre has been the whole time.
I heard about this play from my adult drama class as the Principal of Urban Stage Helen Kay plays the Woman in “The Father” and as always did a fantastic performance and sang a beautiful solo that gave us all goosebumps. Kenneth Alan Taylor who plays The Father really was spectacular and was so convincing and mesmerizing throughout the performance.
If you get chance to pop over to Oldham Coliseum this week I’d really recommend it. The Show is on till Saturday 1st July and then moves over to Harrogate http://www.coliseum.org.uk/plays/the-father/
